2 on the run after police uproot suspected bhang in Nyeri
By Ascah Mwango, August 9, 2025Two persons of interest are currently at large after police uncovered and uprooted a farm suspected to be cultivating Cannabis sativa in Nyeri County.
In a statement shared by The National Police Service (NPS), the operation, which took place on August 8, 2025, was carried out by officers from Kigogoini Police Post in close collaboration with the local area chief and the Nyumba Kumi community policing team.
This successful intervention was initiated following a tip-off from vigilant members of the public who reported suspicious activities on the farm.
According to the authorities, the targeted farm was actively being used for the illegal cultivation of bhang. During the operation, police seized the stems of the suspected plants, which have since been preserved as evidence for further investigations and legal proceedings.
“Police in Nyeri have uprooted stems of suspected Cannabis sativa following a tip-off from vigilant members of the public. The operation, conducted on 8 August 2025 by officers from Kigogoini Police Post in collaboration with the area chief and the Nyumba Kumi team, targeted a farm where the illegal plants were reportedly being cultivated. The stems were seized and will be preserved as exhibits pending further police action,” the statement read in part.

Two individuals, thought to be brothers, are still on the run. Law enforcement has stepped up its search and urges anyone with information about their location to come forward at the nearest police station. The National Police Service is dedicated to combating illegal drugs and thanks the public for their ongoing cooperation.
Authorities have ramped up their efforts to locate and apprehend them, emphasising the importance of community cooperation.
“Two persons of interest, believed to be brothers, are currently at large. Police have intensified efforts to track them down and are urging anyone with information on their whereabouts to report to the nearest police station. The National Police Service remains committed to eliminating illegal drugs and appreciates the public’s continued support.”
This recent bust comes just months after another police operation in Kikuyu, where bhang was discovered growing on a farm. A manhunt was launched for the farm owner and his two Burundian farmhands.
Meanwhile, in a related case, police arrested a person of interest transporting illegal bhang in Wajir County. The arrest occurred on Monday, August 4, at the Watiti Roadblock, following a tip from a member of the public.
“On Monday, 4th August 2025, police officers manning the Watiti Roadblock acted swiftly on intelligence received from a vigilant member of the public, who reported a suspicious individual on a motorbike who appeared hesitant to cross the police barrier,” the police said.
Adding;
“A few minutes later, the described motorbike approached the roadblock. The rider attempted to evade the spikes but was promptly stopped by officers on duty,” the police said.
