143 more test positive for coronavirus as Kericho joins list of affected counties

One hundred and forty three (143) more Kenyans have tested positive for coronavirus disease in the last 24 hours, Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Rashid Aman says.

Kenya’s total number of confirmed COVID-19 infections now stands at 1, 888.

The 143 new cases were discovered in 2, 959 samples tested between Friday and Saturday.

One hundred and ten (110) patients of the 143 are male, whereas 33 are female, said Dr. Aman.

The youngest patient among the 143 is one-month-old, whereas the oldest is 88 years old.

Nairobi produced 86 of the new COVID-19 cases. Mombasa came second with 25 cases, Uasin Gishu came third with 11 infections, whereas Kiambu — with six cases — rounded out the Top Four most-affected areas in the country.

The following counties also registered COVID-19 cases: Busia (3), Kwale (3) and Migori (3). Kajiado, Kisii, Garissa, Isiolo, Kericho and Makueni counties recorded one case each.

Kericho is the latest and 33rd county to register a COVID-19 case in Kenya.

In Nairobi, Makadara, with 45 cases, posted the highest number of COVID-19 infections. Other areas in the capital that registered at least a case include: Makadara, Kibra, Embakasi South, Lang’ata, and Starehe, among others.

In Mombasa, Likoni, Changamwe, Mvita and Jomvu were some of the areas that posted at least one case of COVID-19.

Twenty six (26) more COVID-19 patients were discharged from quarantine facilities after testing negative for the virus, bringing Kenya’s total number of recoveries to 464.

One more patient died of coronavirus disease, bringing to 63 the total number of fatalities arising from coronavirus disease.

Kenya has thus far tested 76, 962 persons for COVID-19.
