CNN journalist Larry Madowo is set to make a comeback to the popular TV show The Trend on NTV.
The journalist is set to co-host the TV programme together with Ciru Muriuki in honour of the late Jahmby Koikai who passed on at a Nairobi Hospital on Monday, June 3, 2024.
Larry will make a comeback after leaving the TV station in 2018 and setting his eyes on international broadcasters.
Confirming the show, NTV reported that the show was on course and that the International CNN correspondent was one of the guests.
“Tonight we are doing the show in a special way. Tune in at 8 pm as we take you back to where it all started. The Top Trending Talkers are celebrating Jahmby in a special way,” the media house stated.
The other co-hosts in the show will include Anita Nderu, and Jeff Mote alongside actress Cindy Ogana and content creator Eddie Butita.
Jahmby was also a co-host of the show which is currently hosted by TV personality Amina Abdi Rabar.
At the time of leaving the popular show, Larry had hosted The Trend for four and a half years.
“When you look at Friday night television everybody is trying to do what I have done. Every channel is copying what we are doing and I can’t compete with my students anymore,” Larry said at the time.
Jahmby Koikai
Jahmby Koikai succumbed to endometriosis at 38 years of age after battling the disease for decades.
Endometriosis is a gynaecological condition associated with menstruation where tissue similar to the lining of the womb develops in other areas of the body, including the fallopian tubes, pelvis, bowel, vagina and intestines.
She was a popular radio host and a reggae DJ who spent a better chunk of a career advocating for better menstrual health in the country.
In 2015, Jahmby’s condition took a bad turn when her lungs collapsed and she had to seek specialised surgery.
Her state continued to deteriorate in 2018 when she had a series of lung failures, and at one point was heavily bandaged with tubes going in and out of her frame.
She had to fly out of the country to seek specialised treatment which came at a cost and Jahmby had to fundraise to offset the ballooning hospital bill.
According to the late Jahmby, misdiagnosis and several botched surgeries worsened her condition.
