Activist Hanifa Farsafi who is among vocal activists for Occupy Parliament protests, has expressed a sense of calm after her interaction with the authorities, emphasizing that she looks forward to the upcoming protest.

As seen on her X account on June 24, 2024, Hanifa shed light on the aftermath of her encounter with the DCI.

According to Hanifa, the DCI denied their involvement in Shad’s disappearance, another layer of complexity to the unfolding events, fueling the determination of activists to push forward with their cause.

Amid heightened tensions and uncertainties surrounding recent events, activist Hanifa requested her followers and fellow protestors not to live in fear, adding that they should meet up for the upcoming demonstrations.

“We were not arrested and going there has put us at ease at least me. We cannot hide and live in fear. The DCI said that they were not the ones abducting people and we asked what they were doing about it. We asked where Shad is and they’re asking for the ON and complaints. We meet tomorrow for the mega demo and we will be loud and clear,” Hanifa said.

The Occupy Parliament protests, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, have garnered significant attention and support from various sectors of society.

Led by the dynamic GenZ activists, the movement aims to drive change and demand accountability from the government.

As preparations for the mega demonstration intensify, Hanifa’s plea for a strong turnout resonates with many, encouraging individuals to stand together and amplify their voices in a unified call for transparency and change.

Activists present themselves to DCI

Some activists, including Boniface Mwangi, former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, Haki Africa Director Khalid Hussein and activist Hanifa Farsafi, were taken to the Nairobi regional police station on Monday for questioning.

Mutunga accompanied the three activists to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters on Kiambu Road at 11 am on Monday, June 24, 2024. He briefly addressed the media upon arrival at DCI, condemning the abductions as unconstitutional.

“Abductions are unconstitutional. Police are supposed to comply with human rights,” the former Chief Justice asserted.

During their brief appearance at DCI’s headquarters, Boniface explained that they had come to surrender themselves to the police to avoid being abducted.

“We came to hand ourselves to the police because we don’t want to be abducted in the streets. Why should we be afraid of living in our country? They want to kill us for expressing our right to dissent. The president wants to dialogue, yet they are abducting us. Right now, Shad is missing. Ask the president, where is Shad?” Boniface demanded.
