34-year-old woman arrested for burning 6-year-old cousin’s genitals
By K24 Editorial, March 30, 2024A 34-year-old woman accused of burning the private parts of her 6-year-old cousin was on Saturday arrested by police in Tana River.
Police said the suspect, Zawadi Mlewa, burnt the minor using burning papers as a punishment for bedwetting on March 23, 2024.
She later took the boy to a nearby facility where he was treated and discharged.
The minor’s parent, Lina John, had left the young boy in the care of the suspect after she left the country for Saudi Arabia for work.
“Zawadi Mlewa burnt his private parts using burning papers for wetting his bed. He sustained burns on the base of his penis. The suspect later escorted the child to Tarasaa Catholic Dispensary where he was treated and discharged,’ a police report read in parts.
Mlewa was arrested by police after the matter was reported to police and is currently in custody pending arraignment in court.
Meanwhile, the minor was taken to a different medical facility for further check-ups before being discharged.
“The victim was escorted to NGAO Sub-County Hospital for further medical check-up, P3 filled and discharged,” the police report read in parts.
Separate incident
Elsewhere in Kitengela, a man succumbed to serious injuries after he torched his marital home following a disagreement with his wife.
The deceased is said to have chased everyone out of the house before he lit the house using the gas leaking from his LPG cylinder.
Firefighters responded to calls but they could not salvage the house and materials as they had been reduced to ashes.
The man’s remains were collected and moved to a nearby mortuary pending investigation.
