The weatherman has asked Kenyans to brace themselves for continued rains in multiple regions today and tomorrow.
In a forecast shared on Thursday, May 9, 2024, the weatherman said the rains will hit select parts of Western Kenya, Rift Valley, Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, North Coast, and offshore.
The met department called for vigilance and adequate preparations.
“Continued rainfall across multiple regions. Isolated heavy rain is likely in some parts of Western Kenya, Rift Valley, Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, North Coast, and Offshore on Thursday 9th and Friday 10th May. Stay safe and prepared!” the statement read in parts.

Earlier, the weatherman had announced that heavy downpours will likely occur in some parts of the country.
According to the weather projection for May 7 to May 13, the met department noted that the heavy rains will continue in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley in the first half of the week.
However, the weatherman stated that the rain intensities will reduce in the second half of the week.
“Afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are expected over several places during the first half of the forecast period reducing to a few places thereafter,” the weatherman added.
At the same time, the weatherman also warned that low-lying areas, flood plains and urban areas with poor drainage will continue to experience flooding.
The department added that landslides may occur on steep slopes with soils that are saturated, and further asked citizens to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from the effects of strong winds, and lightning strikes.
“Those living within flood plains should remain alert as flood waters may appear in the absence of rain. The public is advised to avoid sheltering under trees and metallic structures to minimize exposure to lightning strikes. They are also advised to be cautious since the forecast strong winds may damage roofs, trees, billboards, etc,” the department added.
