Most parts of Kenya will continue to record heavy downpours in the next five days, the latest warning by the weatherman shows.
Kenya Metrological Department issued a five-day forecast covering April 13 to April 17.
The weatherman says isolated heavy rainfall events are likely to occur in some parts of the highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands, the Coast and North-eastern Kenya.
From Saturday to Wednesday, the Met said highlands East of the Rift Valley (Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka and Nairobi Counties) will experience rains over few places in the morning, showers and thunderstorms over several places in the afternoon and showers over several places at night.
The aforementioned counties will record a maximum average temperature of 29 degrees Celsius and a minimum average temperature of 12 degrees Celsius for the five-day period.
From Saturday to Wednesday, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley (Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot Counties) will experience rains over few places in the morning, showers and thunderstorms over several places in the afternoon and showers over few places at night.
The aforementioned counties will record a maximum average temperature of 29 degrees Celsius and a minimum average temperature of 14 degrees Celsius for the five-day period.
Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties will mostly experience rain in the afternoon.
Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta Counties will experience showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon while at night the rains are expected in a few places.
Chances of rainfall are low in Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Turkana and Samburu Counties.
The weatherman says some counties especially those in the north of Kenya, eastern and coast will record higher temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius.
The counties include Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Isiolo, Garissa, Tana River, Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale and Turkana.
“This forecast should be used in conjunction with the daily (24-hour) forecast issued by this Department,” Director of Metrological Services David Gikungu said.
“County-specific forecasts are available from the offices of respective County Directors of Meteorology,” he advised.
