A bodaboda rider and two of his passengers on Saturday afternoon escaped death after a vehicle ferrying Miraa hit their bodaboda before veering off the road along Giampampo in Maara, Tharaka-Nithi county.

In the incident, the bodaboda was hit by the vehicle ferrying Miraa as it had attempted to divert from the road to pave the way.

Consequently, the driver of the vehicle lost control and hit a culvert landing on a ditch at the end of the steep slope.

Witnesses who spoke to K24 Digital alluded that at the time of the accident, the vehicle ferrying miraa was overspeeding while traversing the meandered steep slope.

The bodaboda rider was rushed for treatment at Chuka Referral Hospital after he sustained minor injuries to his arms and upper body part.

The driver of the vehicle and everyone else escaped unhurt.

So far, the bodaboda and the damaged vehicle have been towed to Chuka police station.

On May 5, 2022, a similar accident involving a vehicle ferrying Miraa and a bodaboda rider occurred at Njuri, Chuka Igambangombe.

The incident claimed the life of one person and left another amputated.

A similar incident also occurred on February 8, 2022, after a vehicle transporting Miraa lost control and veered off the road.

Following the spate of accidents involving vehicles ferrying Miraa, bodaboda operators have been asked to be extra cautious when travelling along the route. Similarly, the drivers ferrying Miraa were also cautioned against overspeeding while driving along the route.
