Police in Nairobi are investigating the death of a university student who was found dead in her room in Parklands on Sunday, February 12, 2023.

Police reports indicate that the body of Teresia Wawira Ndwiga was found in her room with a white bloody substance oozing from her nose.

The deceased was a fourth-year Law student at the University of Nairobi and was sharing a room with a colleague.

However, police said that at the time of the discovery of the body, Teresia’s roommate was away.

In her report, the roommate told the police that she was away for the weekend and when she came back she found the room locked from the inside.

Unable to gain access to the room, she contacted the guards on duty who peeped and saw the naked body lying on the floor.

The guards alerted the police who broke the door and retrieved the body on Sunday.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei confirmed the incident, saying there were no visible marks on the body.

“We do not know what caused her death but investigations are ongoing,” Bungei said.

The incident comes two months after a missing female Kenyatta University (KU) student was found dead at her boyfriend’s house in Kahawa Wendani, Kiambu county.

Police and parents said Victoria Muthoni Theuri, who was pursuing Public Policy and Administration at the university, was last seen on Christmas day.

At the time, she informed her parents that she was visiting her sister, before heading home. However, she failed to return home and her mobile phone was not reachable. Her parents called her sister to check whether she had stopped by.

Police noted that her sister said she had not seen Victoria prompting the parents to report the incident at the police station.

Apparently, the deceased had problems with her parents prior to the incident. This was after her parents established that she had gotten pregnant while in school.

However, despite the disagreements, she had never gone missing. She lived with her parents in a neighbourhood within Kahawa as she still went to school.

Body found

Victoria’s body was discovered after neighbours who experienced a foul smell emerging from her boyfriend’s apartment alerted the police.

“The man who lives there was not around and we found it odd that there was a bad smell coming out of the house. It smelt like something rotten inside the locked house,” a neighbour told a local publication.

Police who visited the scene found victoria’s lifeless body with no visible injuries.

“She must have been dead for at least three days,” an officer privy to the investigations said.

Police traced her boyfriend and arrested him before taking him to Ruiru sub-county Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for questioning.

The suspect told police that he had left the deceased at his house while he travelled home.
