President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday, April 25, 2022 led the nation in viewing the body of retired President the late Mwai Kibaki.

President Kenyatta was received in Parliament buildings by his Deputy William Ruto, but in a rare occurrence, the two did not shake hands.

Instead, the President bowed with his hands clasped together as a form of greeting, which he did to all leaders present including Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka and his National Assembly Justin Muturi.

President Kenyatta has fallen out with his Deputy since the former opted to support ODM leader Raila Odinga for Presidency in the August 9 polls.

Kibaki died on Thursday, April 21, 2022 aged 90. His body will lie in state for public viewing from today April 25, 2022, to Wednesday, April 27, 2022.

Kibaki will be accorded a State send-off with full military honours on Saturday, April 30, 2022. Friday, April 29, 2022 has been declared a public holiday to celebrate Kibaki.

Mwai Kibaki is survived by four children Judy Wanjiku, Jimmy Kibaki, David Kagai and Tony Githinji.

The late Kibaki served as Kenya’s President between 2003 and 2013.
