Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa has called on Kapseret Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi to apologize to Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) over insensitive remarks.
Thang’wa was rattled by Sudi after he referred United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala as an elevated MCA.
“Whether I agree or disagree with @Cleophasmalala’s letter, let me address @HonOscarSudi’s tweet.
“It’s good for the honorable MP to note that MCAs are esteemed individuals and should be treated with respect. Being an MCA is not a limitation. In fact, MCAs have demonstrated that when given the opportunity, they can perform legislative and leadership roles even better than self-proclaimed political experts,” Thang’wa wrote on X on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.
Adding that; “As we speak, the Senate has 5 Senators who are former MCAs, including myself. The governor of Isiolo is also a former MCA. In parliament, I believe Sudi sits with MPs who are also former MCAs. He should apologize to MCAs for his insensitive remarks.”

Sudi’s remark
Oscar Sudi rebuffed a cautionary note from UDA party’s Secretary General Cleophas Malala dismissing him as an ‘elevated MCA’.
Sudi, a prominent figure aligned with President William Ruto’s political sphere, responded to Malala’s admonishment with a sharp retort on Wednesday, accusing him of harboring a sense of “illusory superiority.”
In his rebuttal, Sudi drew a comparison between Malala’s standing and that of Raphael Tuju, the Secretary General of the erstwhile ruling Jubilee Party, insinuating a discrepancy in political stature.
Malala had earlier issued a directive to several UDA figures, including Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and Githunguri MP Gathoni Wa Muchomba, alongside Sudi, urging them to refrain from criticizing the party leadership, including the presidency, or face disciplinary action.
Expressing concern over the public statements made by the trio, Malala underscored how their remarks risked undermining the authority of the party they had sworn to serve, exacerbating internal discord within UDA.
Delivering a stern warning, Malala emphasized the party’s uncompromising stance against such conduct and called for an immediate cessation of such activities.
Furthermore, Malala extended his admonition to Cabinet Secretaries Kipchumba Murkomen and Moses Kuria, advising them to abstain from political engagements in accordance with legal protocols.
He suggested that should they harbour political aspirations, they ought to resign from their ministerial roles.
Additionally, Malala cautioned young UDA politicians against prematurely embarking on campaigns for the 2027 elections, urging them instead to prioritize public service delivery.
The directive from Malala arrives against the backdrop of escalating tensions between rival factions within the UDA, signaling a concerted effort to preserve party unity and discipline amidst internal strife.
