Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a two-week traffic disruption along the UN Avenue at the Runda Drive Junction.

KURA said the disruption was necessitated by the need to allow the contractor to install cross culverts and to process earthworks along the section.

The roads agency further notified motorists that the disruption would commence from September 3, 2023, at 6 a.m. to September 17, 2023, at 6 a.m.

“We wish to inform the general public that there will be traffic disruption along UN Avenue (Runda Drive Junction) as from 6 am Sunday, September 3, 2023, till 6 am Sunday, September 17, 2023,” Kura said in a statement.

“This is to allow the contractor to install cross culverts and process earthworks along the section,” the statement added.

KURA further warned motorists to drive with caution while approaching Runda Drive Junction along UN Avenue, adding that police officers will be on site to enable a smooth flow of traffic.

“Motorists are advised to drive with caution as they approach the section and to follow the road signs provided. The police and traffic marshals will be on site to enable a smooth flow of traffic. We apologize for any inconveniences that may be caused as we endeavour to transform urban mobility,” Kura said.

Limuru, UN Avenue expansion

KURA is expanding Limuru Road and UN Avenue into dual carriageways.

Two local contractors were awarded tenders to expand the two roads. They are expected to complete construction by October 2024.

The 3.2-kilometre Limuru Road phase I, which starts from Wangari Maathai Road junction to the Muthaiga Road junction, has been under construction since November 2022.

The 2.7-kilometre UN Avenue, which starts from Limuru Road Junction to the Northern bypass at Runda, has also been under construction since November 2022.

The contract for the construction of the first phase of Limuru Road was awarded to Dero Construction at Ksh1.6 billion last year.

A joint venture by Wak, Sajucy and Vaniax was awarded the Ksh1.2 billion UN Avenue road contract.
