President William Ruto has opened up on last year’s National Prayer Breakfast meeting where he asked for forgiveness from retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking during the 20th annual Prayer Breakfast meeting in Nairobi, Ruto urged Kenyans and the political class to embrace the spirit of forgiveness.

“The theme of this prayer breakfast is reconciliation, which is very interesting because the last prayer breakfast was around the same, and I remember asking for forgiveness from former President Uhuru Kenyatta,” the President said.

“Colossians 3:13 reminds us to bear with each other and forgive one another and without this understanding, we end up fighting each other instead of for each other, we end up divided instead of being united.”

Ruto termed the 2022 General Elections as a turning point for Kenya, where former President Kenyatta handed over power to his deputy and shifted to the opposition.

“In the last election, the opposition candidate won the election and the sitting president became the opposition leader. That only happens in Kenya,” Ruto said.

Ruto on housing fund

Ruto also drummed up support for the housing fund during the National Prayer Breakfast meeting, saying that it would serve the interest of many.

“If we feel the pain of the 3%, it is because we are alive. If we feel the pain of the millions of young people looking for jobs, of seven million Kenyans who live in indignity in slums, then we are human beings,” he added.

The event was snubbed by opposition politicians led by Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa and Jeremiah Kioni, who had been invited to the event.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta did not also attend the event.
