Unknown thieves broke into JM Kariuki Hospital morgue in Nyandarua county and stole a body of a 10-year-old on Tuesday night December 6, 2022.

A mortuary attendant told police on Wednesday that he realized there was a break-in at the mortuary when he was reporting to work in the morning at around 8 am.

The attendant said he realized the main door at the mortuary had been broken. Police said they established that three doors of the said mortuary block were broken into.

In the mortuary, the thieves accessed one of the freezers and removed the body of the juvenile and left with it.

Septic hole

Police immediately launched a search for the missing body which was shockingly found in a septic hole out of the mortuary.

It’s not clear why the thieves stole the body from the mortuary’s refrigerator only to dump it in a septic hole a few meters from the mortuary.

Police, who fire brigade officials accompanied, retrieved the body while intact and returned it to the mortuary.

The authorities said they plan a further inspection of the body and also launch an investigation to determine how the boy died as part of the probe into the daring theft at the mortuary.
