The crackdown on illicit brews, drugs and substances in Kitengela has been intensified following an outcry from members of the public that rogue business persons have devised new methods of operation to avert arrests.
In a major crackdown led by Kitengela officer commanding station (OCS) David ole Shani, several people were arrested with chang’aa and bhang.
At the Migingo area in Noonkopir, tens of litres packaged in polythene bags were intercepted in a residential area which comprises several rental houses.
It emerged that the houses were dens of chang’aa packaging. The undiluted chang’aa was packed inside cement bags and sealed for transportation to avert suspicion.
A litre of undiluted chang’aa, according to the police, is sold for Ksh600 to suppliers who sell the brew in ordinary bars.
Women’s handbags are also utilized to pack the chang’aa for transportation.
During the crackdown, branded hardware was also established to be an illicit brew and chang’aa den.
One movie shop was also found to be a bhang outlet where rolls of bhang and raw bhang were intercepted.
Isinya Sub-county police commander Patrick Manyasi lauded members of the public for giving crucial information that led to the arrest of drug dealers and illicit brew dealers.
“Our work as security agents has been simplified by wananchi’s goodwill of volunteering to give crucial timely information. We are delighted that wananchi have confidence in the security apparatus. We remain committed to fighting illicit brews and illegal substances. Those involved in the illegal business should be warned that they will not escape the wrath of the law, we are vigil,” Manyasi said.
Some of those arrested included those operating liquor joints before and after the stipulated time.
“Those operating bars day and night will not be tolerated. No trader should bend the rules to suit his desire, Kenya is not a banana republic, we are guided by standard rules and regulations,” the police boss warned.
He also warned drug peddlers said to be luring youth to bhang smoking that their days are numbered.
The suspects arrested during the operation will be arraigned at the Kajiado Law Court.
