A 15-year-old boy who was connected to the defilement and subsequent death of a Grade Two pupil of Nyalieng’a Primary was on Wednesday, November 23, arraigned before Homa-Bay Principal Magistrate Ruth Maloba.

The accused identified as Raphael Okinyi alias “prophet Abraham”, was charged with defiling Vivian Akoth before she later died.

Okinyi, whom the residents were not familiar with, prior to his arrival in Kamuombo village, had visited the village with the pretence of offering prayer services to the masses but later turned out to be a defiler.

He was arrested on November 22 and arraigned in court today.

The court granted the prosecution more time to conclude their investigations and examinations which include age, mental and DNA tests, before the suspect takes a plea.

The accused is said to be an orphan and a school dropout from St Mary’s Sindo Legion Church in Suba South Sub-County.

During the time of the incident, the accused was staying with a woman dubbed Mama Kanisa of Legio Maria sect in Kamuombo Village, Kamenya Sub-Location.

The suspect is currently detained at Homa Bay Police station and will be taken to court on November 30 to take a plea.
