Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale says he supports the shoot-to-kill order on criminals terrorising city residents.

Speaking during Citizen TV’s Day Break on Thursday, November 17, 2022, Khalwale insisted that law enforcement officers should be allowed to kill criminals once they capture them.

He maintained that the criminals were ‘terrorists’ and police should not ‘waste’ time arresting them.

“They should not waste time arresting them, they should shoot them because they are terrorists and anybody watching this video would ask how can a doctor say they be shot on sight? It is because they are terrorists, they are terrorising people, they have come for that they should get that which they are asking for, “Khalwale said.

The outspoken senator also urged Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki to enhance and enforce strict orders against the gangs terrorising city residents.

“I want to urge professor Kindiki to give simple and clear instructions to General Service Unit (GSU) officers and Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) people, we want this thing to be ended in the next few days,” he added.

Ruto deploys GSU

Khalwale’s remarks come a day after the Cabinet approved the deployment of the GSU and the RDU to tackle the rising cases of insecurity in Nairobi.

In a despatch from the Cabinet dated Tuesday, November 15, Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) approved the stationing of the officers as a reinforcement to the security agents patrolling the city after a meeting that was chaired by President William Ruto.

“Cabinet sanctioned swift and decisive action to deal with all those perpetrating crimes with the deployment of additional specialized police units drawn from the GSU and RDU,” the despatch read in part.

Consequently, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki also announced changes in the Nairobi County Police Command, with Adamson Bungei taking over as the county police boss.

Cherargei robbed

Prior to the announcement, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei became a victim of the rising crime rates in Nairobi after he was robbed along Valley Road.

Cherargei in a tweet on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, decried the increasing cases of insecurity in the capital, revealing that had been robbed a fortnight earlier.

The Nandi senator bitterly complained that Nairobi had become a crime city and gangs’ haven after he was robbed while stuck in traffic.

“A fortnight ago I lost left- side mirror of my car while stuck on traffic along Valley Road being removed forcefully by a thug. Nairobi is now a crime city & a gangs haven,” he tweeted.

Cherargei further called on the reorganization of the security sector to tackle the rising cases of insecurity.

“The security lapse across the nation must be addressed immediately by re-organisation of the security sector.”
