Some entrances and exits of the Nairobi Expressway will be temporarily out of service during Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nyayo stadium on Monday, December 12.

This is according to Moja Expressway, the company operating the 27-kilometre toll road that stretches from Mlolongo in Machakos county to Waiyaki Way in Westlands, Nairobi.

In a notice to members of the public on Sunday, the firm said the affected sections of the road will be closed from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm for security reasons.

“Please note that for security reasons and in observance of the Jamhuri Day celebrations scheduled to take place at the Nyayo National Stadium some exits and entrances of the Nairobi Expressway will be temporarily out of service from 10 am to 1 pm,” the company said.

Motorists driving from Mlolongo to Westlands have been advised to exit at Capital Centre or join the Nairobi Expressway from Haile Selassie as the Capital Centre entrance will remain closed during the period.

Further, motorists driving from Westlands to Mlolongo have been advised to exit the Nairobi Expressway at Haile Selassie or join from Capital Centre.

The Haile Selassie entrance will remain closed.

“MOJA Expressway Company apologizes for the inconvenience caused,” the notice added.

Earlier, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omoll said preparations for the 59th edition of the Jamhuri Day celebrations were complete.

The PS said members of the public are expected to begin streaming into the stadium at 6:00 am, with the innovation-themed ceremony scheduled to end at around 1:00 pm.

At least 20,000 members of the public are expected to attend the event.

“As it is we are 100% satisfied, we are ready and we are looking forward to having Kenyans from all walks of life attend the celebrations,” PS Omollo said at a press conference in Nairobi on Sunday.

“The celebrations will also be carried out in different parts of the country at different county headquarters.”
