Search operation is underway for two Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officials who went missing on Friday, November 17, 2021.

The two officers are suspected to have been swept by floods while travelling to Mombasa from Lunga-Lunga.

“We would like to inform the public of an unfortunate flooding incident that occurred on the evening of Friday, 17 November 2023. 2 KRA officers have since been reported missing after the vehicle they were travelling in was swept away by the raging floods,” KRA said in a statement.

“The officers were travelling to Mombasa from Lunga-Lunga where they are stationed when the accident happened. The vehicle was swept by floods at Ramisi River in Kwale County.”

KRA informs family

The authority says it has informed family members of the incident, even as search operations continue by a government multi-agency team.

“We have engaged family members of the two officers and an intensive search and rescue operation by a Government multi-agency team is underway. We will continuously update the family members and the public on the progress and outcome of the rescue mission. The safety and well-being of KRA employees remains the Authority’s first priority and all machinery is being deployed for a positive outcome,” the taxman added.

The vehicle in which the two were travelling has already been recovered.
