8 essential safety precautions during heavy rains
By K24 Editorial, November 28, 2023The Ministry of Health(MoH) has issued at least eight guidelines on how to navigate heavy rains that have so far claimed 76 lives and displaced 35,000 households according to a dispatch from the State House.
Through the ministry’s official X account, Kenyans have been advised to avoid flood water and keep their hands clean by always washing them with soap and running water.
MoH has also advised Kenyans to drink safe water. This can be through boiling drinking water or disinfecting it before consumption.
Further, in order to protect against insects like mosquitoes, MoH says individuals should use nets, repellents and cover-ups.
As heavy rains continue to cause havoc across the country, MoH asked people to prioritise hygienic measures when handling food.
“Monitor your health and seek help for unusual symptoms. Handle food safely by avoiding flood-contaminated food,” MoH stated.
In case one notices unusual symptoms, seek medical attention from a qualified doctor.
MoH said it is advisable for Kenyans to stay informed and this can be achieved by following health advisories.
Recent reports show the ongoing rains have put the lives of over 500,000 people in danger.
