Safaricom has announced that unregistered M-Pesa users won’t be able to receive money effective Monday, February 5, 2024.

In a press statement released on Saturday, the mobile service company said registered M-Pesa users will be able to send and receive money effortlessly, even when engaging with different mobile money providers such as Airtel and T-Kash.

“Effective February 5th, 2024, you will no longer be able to send money from M-PESA to unregistered mobile money customers. As a registered mobile money customer, you will be able to send and receive money across different mobile money providers such as Airtel and T-Kash,” the statement read.

Safaricom is urging customers who have not yet registered for mobile money services to promptly do so.

The process is simple, requiring a visit to any Safaricom Shop or M-Pesa Agent with a valid Identity Document.

“We encourage customers who are not registered for mobile money services to register by visiting a Safaricom Shop or M-PESA Agent with their Identity Document,” Safaricom urged.
