In a bid to address the growing number of brothels infiltrating residential neighbourhoods, Kilimani Member of County Assembly (MCA), Robert Alai, has put forward a novel solution.

Alai’s proposal suggests the creation of special estates dedicated exclusively to accommodating the numerous brothels that have taken root within the Kilimani and Kileleshwa areas.

Through his X page, Alai voiced his concerns about the increasing prevalence of brothels in these otherwise upscale residential locales.

“We need to create an estate just for these many brothels opened deep in residential estates. We have so many brothels in Kilimani and Kileleshwa,” he asserted.

Alai underscored the importance of maintaining order and decency within residential neighbourhoods while also acknowledging the existence of a demand for such services.

“We need sanity in residential areas. Yes, we need the sin side sometimes but it shouldn’t be the norm. Make it discreet and interesting. It can’t be all over as it is,” he said.

In November last year, the Nairobi county government took action to cancel licenses of nightclubs near homes.

The City Hall officials explained that they revoked licenses for these places in residential areas because many people were upset.

They also mentioned that from now on, no new licenses will be given to nightclubs in those areas, except for those in the main downtown area.

Alai had been leading the effort to criticize these clubs.

He pointed out that they were causing problems in residential areas by making too much noise. He praised this decision, saying, “We’re succeeding in this battle. We don’t start a fight we can’t win. Thanks to Governor Johnson Sakaja.”
