Raila promises to redesign deadly Nithi River bridge

Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga has promised to redesign the deadly Nithi River bridge in Meru County.

Speaking on Tuesday during his tour of the county, Raila said the bridge had claimed many lives and there was a need to redesign it.

“Once I am elected, I will redesign the Nithi bridge because it has caused the deaths of many Kenyans.

“I will ensure it has been reconstructed to modern standards,” Raila said in Meru.

Through his campaign Spokesperson Makau Mutua, the Azimio leader sent a message of condolence to the families who lost their loved ones in the crash.

So far, 35 people have been confirmed dead after the 45-seater Modern Coast bus plunged into the Nithi River.

“On behalf of our campaign, the Azimio la Umoja Coalition Party flag bearer Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua send their deepest condolences to all those who have lost family, friends, and loved ones in the very unfortunate and tragic incident.

“To those still fighting for their lives in hospital, we pray that they get a speedy recovery and we thank the medical personnel attending to them.

“This is a difficult moment for these families and our campaign prays for them to get comfort and fortitude,” Mutua wrote in a statement to newsrooms.
