First Lady Rachel Ruto has offered to assist Igembe South Member of Parliament John Paul Mwirigi to find a wife, saying he is ripe for marriage.
President William Ruto’s wife, who was speaking at Athii Catholic church in Meru county on Sunday, March 5, excited the crowd after she accused the 29-year-old MP serving his second term of taking too long to get married and settle down to raise a family.
“Mwirigi I wonder why you are taking too long are you unable to find a wife? We know you were young when you were elected for the first term at only 23 years old now you are 29 what are you waiting for?” the First Lady posed amid laughter.
She further assured the legislator that she would help him to get a good wife from her Rift Valley backyard soon.
“My son if you cannot get a good wife here in Meru, then I will get you a wife in Rift valley you cannot continue being single without a woman to welcome guests at home,” Rachel said.
However, a section of faithful at the back could be heard in a low tone asking the First Lady to offer one of her daughters to the legislator.
Reacting to Rachel’s remarks, the MP took to his feet and bowed, in an apparent expression that he was contented with the offer.
She challenged the legislator to value marriage and get a woman to help him manage his home when he is away.
Mwirigi was first elected MP in the August 2017 polls on an independent ticket.
The then-23-year-old Mount Kenya University student beat ruling Jubilee Party candidate Rufus Miriti by over 3,000 votes, with Mwenda Mzalendo, Kubai Mutuma and Raphael Muriungi trailing second and third respectively.
He won the hearts of the people and garnered 18,867 votes after a door-to-door campaign on foot in the vast constituency.
