The National Police Service (NPS) has reacted to a viral video doing rounds on social media which shows minor smoking bhang.
Police noted that the language used in the clip seemed to confirm that the minor was smoking marijuana given that reference was made to an ideology propagated by a section of the ongoing politics.
And of extreme concern is the fact that the act and its filming seem to be done by either an adult or adults, all unperturbed by what is transpiring. This is not only wrong and immoral, and infringing on the rights of a minor by adults, but outrightly criminal and punishable by the law,” police say in a statement.
Police warn against sharing the clip
The National Police Service also cautioned Kenyans against distributing the clip showing the minor smoking bhang, noting that doing so was violating the law.
“Those spreading the clip are also abetting the violation of the law and rights of the minor, and should “cease and desist” from the onward transmission of the same. NPS is therefore appalled and wishes to advise the public not to openly engage in acts that are defiant of the law.
“Equally, violations of rights of children, especially minors constitute a criminal offence and our teams are investigating the matter in an effort to bring the suspects to book,” NPS said.
Police further said they are scaling up surveillance and enforcement campaigns against drugs and illegal substances, calling upon the general public to cooperate with them in their endeavour.
