Police have rescued an abandoned baby boy who was found at night at Ajigo market in Bondo sub-county, Siaya county.
In a statement on Saturday, the National Police Service (NPS) said the infant was found alone at the market on Friday night February 23, 2024, at around 11:00 pm.
The baby was found by members of the public who took it to the Lwala Kotiende Police Station.
“A male infant aged approximately one month has been rescued by a member of public. The infant who was found abandoned at Ajigo Market on February 23, 2024, at about 2300hrs was later handed over to Police in Lwala Kotiende,” part of the police statement read.
Police took the infant to Bondo Sub-county Hospital for a check-up before handing it over to the Bondo Children’s Officer.
“The National Police Service appreciates members of the public for their support and reiterates its commitment to act in the best interest of the child,” police said.
Illicit brew
Elsewhere, police in Juja, Kiambu County raided a home and impounded 8,750 litres of suspected ethanol used for the making of illegal brew.
Police said a multiagency team acting on a tipoff from members of the public raided the home and found the ethanol which they said was initially used for processing groundnuts at a factory that has since closed down.
“Multi-agency team yesterday recovered 35 drums each carrying 250 litres (8,750 litres) of suspected Ethanol from a premise which was initially used for processing groundnuts before the factory closed down. A motor vehicle Reg. No. KBR 410Z was also impounded from the compound during the raid.
