Venezuelans saga has been resolved – police, IEBC jointly say

The National Police Service (NPS) and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) have jointly announced that the Venezuelan saga has been resolved, putting an end to the spat witnessed between the two entities.

Speaking during a press conference, Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai stated that the decision involved a consultative meeting with IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati.

“Today’s meeting arises from the issues surrounding the stickers as the IG has stated that has been resolved we have resolved the issue,

“Going forward we have committed to working together and if there is any issue we shall discuss it together. We also want to appeal to Kenyans to turn up in large numbers and vote,” he stated.

IEBC echoes police statement

On his part, Chebukati echoed Mutyambai’s sentiments stating that the two agencies will continue working together to ensure that the electioneering process runs smoothly.

He further announced that they had resolved the issue regarding the confiscated IEBC stickers and had agreed to work together ahead of the August polls.

At the same time, the IEBC boss also pointed out that there were people buying identificaton cards from registered voters to use them.

While cautioning individuals against selling the ID cards, Chebukati called on the police to launch a crack down on the culprits.

“I appeal to voters please don’t sell your democratic right to vote,” he stated.
