Obado questions evidence on threatening woman in Sharon Otieno murder case

Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado has raised questions on evidence presented before the High Court of a woman said to have threatened the late Sharon Otieno before her death.

According to Obado, the deceased was under direct threat at the material time from another woman, whom the investigators chose not to interrogate and/or investigate.

The court heard that the deceased had received a message that warned her to stay away from the unknown woman’s husband, and she promised to look for the deceased and fight her.

“Please leave my husband alone. I have gotten your number finally. I have to look for you and fight you to the bitter end. I have to do for you the worst I can irrespective of the cost it is going to take. You will not walk away with it. Idiot. Prostitute. Gold-digger,” the message to Sharon read.

In his submissions, Obado argues that the investigating officers in the matter were reluctant to pursue the woman behind the threatening text messages, stating that she could have been linked to Sharon’s death.

The former county chief states that he believes that if the investigators were interested, they would have established the owner of that number and the message, and he would have been a person of interest in her murder.

“We submit that the investigators were under a duty to investigate and eliminate the source of the threats as the possible killers of Sharon,” Obado states in his submissions.

“To date I do not know the person who was sending the text messages, and I do not know the husband who was in contestation,” Obado adds.

During the defence hearing, the murder trial, the prosecution had produced evidence in court through witness number 26, stating that there were threatening messages extracted from Sharon’s tablet.

Obado’s personal assistant (PA), Michael Oyamo, in grim evidence before Lady Justice Cecilia Githua at the Milimani High Court on May 23, 2025, confirmed to court that indeed the deceased had received threatening messages on her phone before her murder.

Oyamo told the court that the evidence by prosecution witness number 26 consisted of real-life threats sent to Sharon.

The court also heard that in her response, Sharon texted back the person, stating that she did not remember going out with anyone’s husband.
