The National Police Service (NPS) has announced the appointment of a new Airwing Unit Commandant.

Kabute takes over from Col. (Rtd) Rogers Mbithi who has been redeployed to National Police Service Headquarters.

“As he takes over the new assignment, Mr. Kabute brings a wealth of experience and enormous capacity to take the Unit to greater heights,” NPS said.

“Col. (Rtd) Mbithi hands over the baton to his successor having steered NPS Airwing in the right direction during his tenure.”

Mandate of Airwing Unit

The NPS Airwing is a Unit of the National Police Service based at Wilson Airport in Nairobi. The Unit supports various functions of the police service such as aerial support, emergency evacuations and other functions of security interest.

NPS has in recent days made several changes meant to streamline services at the police body.

On June 29, Kasarani Deputy County Police Commander, Peter Mwanzo was transferred to Nakuru as County Police Commander.

In changes announced by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’t, Mwanzo replaced Beatrice Kiraguri.

The CS effected the changes following a spate of killings targeted at women by the ‘Confirm’ gang in the Mawanga area of Bahati Constituency area.

“We have made changes in the security management of this city, and from today, we will have police patrols in this region. Let them be warned that we are here to look for them. We have all the resources. We are not going to sleep until we get the last one of them,” Matiang’i said.
