Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei became a victim of the rising crime rates in Nairobi after he was robbed along Valley Road.

Cherargei in a tweet on Tuesday November 15, 2022, decried the increasing cases of insecurity in the capital, revealing that had been robbed a fortnight earlier.

The Nandi senator bitterly complained that Nairobi had become a crime city and gangs’ haven after he was robbed while stuck in traffic.

“A fortnight ago I lost left- side mirror of my car while stuck on traffic along Valley Road being removed forcefully by a thug. Nairobi is now a crime city & a gangs haven,” he tweeted.

Cherargei further called on the reorganization of the security sector to tackle the rising cases of insecurity.

“The security lapse across the nation must be addressed immediately by re-organisation of security sector.”

GSU in CBD

Cherargei’s tweet came just hours before the Cabinet approved the deployment of the General Service Unit (GSU) and the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) to tackle the rising cases of insecurity in Nairobi.

In a despatch from the Cabinet dated Tuesday, November 15, Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) approved the stationing of the officers as a reinforcement to the security agents patrolling the city after a meeting that was chaired by President William Ruto.

“Cabinet sanctioned swift and decisive action to deal with all those perpetrating crimes with the deployment of additional specialized police units drawn from the GSU and RDU,” the despatch read in part.

Consequently, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki also announced changes in the Nairobi County Police Command, with Adamson Bungei taking over as the county police boss.
