Zakayo Ruth, a 40-year-old man who shocked many after he hacked to death his neighbour’s two children, has been killed by an irate mob.

Confirming the incident, Kiomo location chief Benedeta Wamuo said Zakayo, who had been in hiding after committing the crime last week on Thursday, came across locals where he pleaded with them to direct him to the chief’s homestead as he was starving.

Upon interrogation, he admitted to having hacked the two children aged 4 and 10. The locals immediately called the children’s father Muthui Maluki who confirmed he was the murder suspect.

“After confessing, members of the public killed him on the spot,” the chief said.

The chief added that the man said his initial plan was to hack the children’s father Muthui Maluki whom he said had been grazing on his land.

“According to the reports I got from locals, Zakayo said he was very bitter with the Muthui who was grazing his cattle on his farm and wanted to kill him but when he went looking for him, he found his wife and children and descended on them,” she added.

The wife is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Machakos level 5 hospital.

Maluki called on leaders together with well-wishers to step in and help in the burial preparations of his two children as well as the accumulating hospital bill.

“I do not have any employment, I used to do manual jobs with my wife for survival,” he said.
