Residents of Kiandugira village in Kigumo, Murang’a county are reeling in shock after a body of an elderly woman was found dumped in a thicket.

A family member while confirming the incident said 90-year-old Mary Njeri went missing the evening of Thursday, September 29, 2022, only for her body to be discovered on Sunday evening October 2.

According to Agnes Njoki, one of the family members, the granny went to the farm where she was tending to her crops but never returned home.

The family members got worried when darkness set in without the granny having returned home. They embarked on a physical search but she was nowhere to be found.

“We combed the area looking for her but we didn’t find her,” Njoki said.

The family got a rude shock after they were informed that their kin had been found murdered in cold blood and her body dumped in a thicket.

“She was naked, had several visible injuries and it appears like the culprits had raped her before killing her,” Njoki added.

“We have no idea who could have done such a heinous act but we are calling for speedy investigations to bring the suspects to book,” she remarked.

The residents condemned the tragic incident as they attributed it to increase drug abuse in the area, claiming the act could have been committed by the addicts.

“No one in their right senses would do such an act to attack an elderly woman, rape and kill her,” Grace Wanjiku, an area resident, said.

“We urge the police to hasten the investigation and arrest those involved in this murder,” she added.
