A 35-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital after he was attacked by his father for uprooting his avocado trees in Kenol, Murang’a county.

A statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) indicates that George Mwangi angered his father after cutting down the trees without his content on Saturday, December 17.

Apparently, the 80-year-old man confronted the son who in defiance threatened the old man with some consequences for his actions.

“George Mwangi Ng’ang’a, 35, had walked into his father’s farm and cut down the trees which bear the rear to find tropical delicacy, much to the chagrin of the old man,” DCI said on Tuesday.

“When his 80-year-old father confronted him over his decision to cut down the trees without his consent, the boy became defiant and murmured in a manner likely to suggest that his father’s days below the sun were numbered, therefore he shouldn’t make decisions affecting the future of the farm.”

The furious octogenarian, who accused the son of trying to inherit his property while he was still alive, reached for a machete and inflicted a serious injury on his shoulder.

“Efforts by the man’s 68-year-old wife Cecilia Njeri to separate the two were fruitless, as her son bit her finger,” DCI added

Close relatives who responded to the incident rushed the young man to Thika Level 5 Hospital where he is currently recuperating.

DCI confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
