An assistant chief who is suspected of defiling a 14-year-old girl in Murang’a county has finally been arrested.

Wangu assistant chief was arrested following protests by the residents who accused the security officers of taking too long to take any action against him in what they claimed was to cover up the matter.

Julius Gachie allegedly molested the minor in Gitweku village on January 1, 2023, at her aunt’s place where she was staying over the holiday.

Her family had sent her to look after the aunt who is said to be mentally challenged.

The junior administrator who lives next to the home is said to have enticed the girl by giving her money and eventually lured her into sleeping with him.

According to the girl, the assistant chief used her aunt’s mobile phone to reach her and asked her to meet him in her aunt’s kitchen at night.

In her report she said, the administrator laid a sack on the earthen floor before committing the act.

The matter was however reported four days later at the Kirogo police station on January 6 where the minor was issued with a P3 form.

Both the relatives and residents expressed concerns over delays to have the assistant chief apprehended saying he had made plans to settle the case out of court.

He is said to have tried to use village elders to convince the minor’s parents to have the matter settled out of court.

On Thursday, residents of Gitweku matched to the chief’s office located in Koimbi vowing to camp there until the culprit is arrested.

They said it’s been over a month yet the administrator has been walking freely despite committing the act, adding that he has been molesting other girls in the area.

“We know his rotten character and we cannot watch him enjoy freedom despite having committed such a heinous act,” one of the residents said.

“We want him arraigned in court to face the law and he should not be allowed back into public service,” remarked another.

County Commissioner Karuku Ngumo however said the security officers took their time before taking action to consolidate their evidence and ensure the case was solid before he is charged.
