Prime Cabinet Secretary and CS Foreign Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has conveyed his condolences to the people of Iran following the tragic deaths of President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Affairs Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
In a letter addressed to Ali Bagheri, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mudavadi expressed his deep sorrow and shock over the sudden loss of the Iranian leaders.
He highlighted the significant contributions of Minister Amir-Abdollahian to regional peace and the strengthening of Iran-Kenya relations.
“I am deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden passing of H.E Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, alongside my colleague and dear brother, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Minister of Foreign Affairs. On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Kenya, the staff of the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Kenya, and on my own behalf, I would like to convey my deepest condolences to Your Excellency and, through you, to the bereaved families and friends of the deceased leaders, and indeed to the people of Iran,” Mudavadi wrote.
He praised Minister Amir-Abdollahian for his dedication and efforts in promoting regional peace and strengthening international relations, including those between Iran and Kenya.
“During his tenure as Foreign Affairs Minister, His Excellency Hossein Abdollahian contributed greatly not only to the promotion of regional peace, security and stability but also invested his energy in enhancing relations between Iran and its friendly nations, such as Kenya. He will always be remembered for his tireless devotion and dedication to his fellow countrymen and to the cause of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and May Allah give his family and friends the strength to deal with this big loss,” Mudavadi added.

Raila mourns with Iran
Opposition leader Raila Odinga also mourned the Iranian leaders expressing shock at their deaths noting it comes at a challenging time for Iran amid Middle Eastern tensions.
He expressed confidence in Iran’s resilience and recalled Raisi’s recent visit to Kenya, where he was seen as a friend and supporter of Africa.
“I have received with shock the news of the death of President Ebrahim Raisi and foreign minister Hossein Amirabdollahian. The death has come at a trying and uncertain moment for Iran, with the country navigating heightened tensions in the Middle East.
“I have faith that the Iran’s traditions and strong institutions will withstand the shock and overcome the loss. Kenya had the pleasure of hosting H.E Raisi only recently and I regarded him as a good friend of Kenya and a great supporter of Africa. May his soul rest in peace,” Raila wrote on his X account.
President Raisi and Minister Amir-Abdollahian died in a helicopter crash on Sunday.
