Microsoft Africa Development Center Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Catherine Muraga has lauded the efforts put by academic institutions such as Zetech University in ensuring they are at the forefront of the conversation on revolutionising education through Artificial Intelligence.

Speaking during Zetech University’s 7th graduation ceremony on Friday October 10, 2023 which was full of pomp as they celebrated 25 years of excellence, Catherine noted that technology has an immense ability to personalize and humanize learning, but to realize this potential, it’s key to upskill instructors and faculty.

“When institutions invest in both technology and training for their faculty, instructors often feel more confident using and innovating with digital tools, which can create opportunities for more connection with students,” she said.

Moreover, she appealed to corporate leaders to mentor and give employment opportunities to fresh graduates.

“Our companies must adapt to new ways of working, not only by adopting new technologies but also by listening to the wishes of the younger generation and by continuously training them to join our teams. Technological breakthroughs are transforming our companies, changing the way we produce, and disrupting our organizations, and young minds are at the forefront of this revolution”, she surmised.

On his part,Vice Chancellor Prof. Njenga Munene applauded the government’s commitment to funding universal education but noted that in as much as universities were producing graduates, there was a dire deficit of graduates who are independent thinkers, who could lead the country during these difficult times.

Prof. Munene noted that the country needs men of integrity and values to move forward, adding that in as much as the universities were putting effort into producing quality graduates, a lot more had to be done to ensure they forged a just and humane society, with graduates who are true ambassadors of civility.

The chancellor, Prof. Susan Alfano Nkinyangi took note of the university’s expanding role internationally, having partnered with the wholesale and retail sector training authority of South Africa to train more than 120 of their informal traders.

She also applauded the many athletes from Zetech University such as Madina Okot in the national lady’s basketball team and Rebecca Kwoba who is the current captain of the Harambee Starlets under-20 national team in Cameroon.

The ceremony at the University’s new Technology Park Mang’u Campus marked the varsity’s first physical graduation since 2020.

It also saw the first cohort of Zetech University’s master of Business Administration degree students conferred degrees, and capped the university’s celebration of 25 Years of Academic Excellence, having their inaugural PhD program approved by the Commission for University Education.
