Taita Taveta: Man who allegedly strangled 2 sons before setting their bodies on fire found dead

A man who strangled and later set on fire the bodies of his two children has been found dead in Taita Taveta county.

Police have revealed that the body of Jackson Chacha was found dangling from a roof of a house he is believed to have rented moments after he fled Mombasa following the killing of 8-year-old and 4-year-old sons on Monday.

Mombasa county police Commander Stephen Matu said that detectives managed to identify the suspect since he had with him his national identity card and his brothers assisted police In the identification exercise.

“Yes, he is the man who was being sought by police over his children’s killing. Our counterparts from Taita Taveta Lesisia area communicated indicating that the suspect had been found, however, he was dead. We managed to ascertain his identity and revealed that indeed he is the one,” Matu stated.

The county police boss further revealed that postmortem results had indicated that the minors were strangled before their bodies were set on fire.

The postmortem was conducted yesterday at the Coast general referral hospital.

According to Chacha’s wife Maria Boke is alleged to have killed the two minors after he picked up an argument with her, and threatened to kill her if she did not leave their home.

“I left and sought refuge at a friend’s house however at around 2 am Monday night he called me to inform me that he had called my only children and that l should go home and see for myself,” the teary mother said.

Matu added that an inquest file had been opened to establish the circumstances that lead to the killings.
