Man on the run after shooting KDF officer at Umoja club

A 27-year-old Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer is currently nursing injuries after he was shot at Hornbill club within Umoja estate following a scuffle.

The victim identified as Wilfred Assari attached to 9 KA of Eldoret was in the company of his brother enjoying drinks at the said club.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, The two were sitting near a pool table when an altercation occurred between the club patron and a businessman who was playing pool.

The assailant, a businessman known by his alias name ‘Shawn’ drew a pistol and shot three times in the air.

It was during the process that one of the shots ricocheted and hit the KDF officer on his left arm and injured him.

“An altercation occurred between businessman ‘Shawn’ who was sitting at the pool table with the victim and one of the patrons. The assailant drew a pistol and shot thrice in the air. One of the shots ricocheted and hit the KDF officer in his left arm injuring him,” the police report read in part.

The KDF officer was rushed to MSF Hospital in Eastleigh where he was treated and discharged in fair condition.

Police recovered one spent cartridge from the scene and launched a manhunt for the assailant.

This comes a few weeks after five people were arraigned in court for contravening the liquor licenses act and harming police officers who arrested them.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, while on patrol along Kang’ethe road near Toi market, police officers came across the wines and spirit shop which was operating without a liquor license and they proceeded to arrest the seller.

During the arrest process, two male adults who were consuming alcohol and shisha at the joint, hurled insults at the police officers and threatened to set their vehicle on fire.

A scuffle ensued and inspector Fred Nyamoko and constable Joseph Kisang were injured on the elbows and suffered multiple soft tissue injuries.
