A middle-aged man claiming to be an alumna of Moi University was on Thursday, November 3 charged before Milimani Law Courts for attempting to secure a loan from Finance Bank Limited using forged documents.

Gerald Lumuchele is said to have walked into the bank in June this year and attempted to use a fake Second Class Honours, Upper Division Degree in Computer Science from Moi University to apply for a loan.

It is said that the forged documents were revealed by the bank security department upon search of the said serial number appearing in the certificates as it was confirmed that the digits did not appear from the university database.

Further, he was charged with forging the Moi University degree certificate of Bachelor of Science, Second Class Honours, Upper Division serial number 372236 dated December 17, 2021.2

Court grants him bail

He denied charges leveled against him by the state before Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi.

The magistrate, however, granted him a bond of Ksh200,000 with an alternative cash bail of Ksh100,000.

The case will be mentioned on November 17, 2022, for pretrial.
