Alex Sadi, the man who went viral in 2016 after confronting traffic police officers implementing Alcoblow rules, has been arrested after a raid on his pharmacy in Mtwapa, Kilifi county.

Sadi was found to be in possession of stocks of government medicine in the raid conducted by police and officers from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

According to Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) Head of Crime Investigations and Enforcement Unit Dennis Otieno, Sadi was arrested on Monday in the Kadunguni area moments after he managed to evade the police dragnet.

“We laid a trap at his chemist he had come back to his chemist to collect what had been left behind following the raid and moments after he walked in we managed to arrest him,” Otieno stated.

Otieno noted that drugs worth Ksh5 million were recovered from the Sadi’s chemist.

“Upon running his profile l realized that he is the same man in the video where he engaged traffic police officers over his grievances on the use of Alcoblow. Yes indeed he is the one heard saying “when you catch me like a rat on the highway,” Otieno added.

The officer confirmed that Sadi is a trained clinical officer who has been working in private hospitals within Mombasa.

Among the medical items recovered were disposable boxes for sharps, disposable bags, antiretrovirals (ARVs), Fluconazole, Flucoxacillin and Paracetamol tablets all labelled ‘Kemsa GOK’.

“The board had received a tip about the illegal operations at the chemist during the normal routine inspections and on Sunday our team was inspecting pharmacies within Mtwapa and that is how we came across this particular pharmacy stocking government drugs,” he said.

He is facing charges of being in possession of government stores.

Sadi had been arrested in December 2016 and a video of him confronting traffic police officers went viral on social media.

In the video, he is heard protesting “When you catch me like a rat on the highway”, a phrase that went viral on social media as Kenyans narrated their experience in the hands of the “overzealous” officers from National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
