A middle-aged man is on the run after brutally attacking his estranged wife and in-laws in Mbooni East, Makueni County.

Muthwani assistant chief Peter Kasangi said the jilted man had separated from his wife for about three months and she had returned to her parent’s home.

The chief said the suspect raided his in-law’s home on Monday night September 4, 2023, where he attacked his estranged wife and her brother.

“At around 7 pm on Monday, the suspect went to his in-laws’ home, where he found his the woman and her brother,” the chief said.

The man attacked his brother-in-law with a machete before he used the same weapon to fatally attack his wife who succumbed to injuries.

“He then attacked the man with a machete, leaving him with serious head injuries before killing his ex-wife with the same panga,” the chief said.

The suspect escaped before neighbours responded.

Police on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, confirmed that the suspect had been arrested.

According to a police statement seen by K24 Digital, the suspect identified as Alphonse Kisavi, 32, surrendered himself to Mbumbuni Police Station today at 3:50 a.m.

Police said they are holding Kisavi in custody pending charges to be preferred on him.

The police report also indicated that Kisavi’s brother-in-law Benson Musyoka, whom he seriously assaulted, had been transferred to Makueni County referral hospital for special treatment.
