Outgoing Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has renewed a push to ban pornographic content in the country.

Speaking at the official opening ceremony of the Kenya Music Festival in Kisumu on Monday, September 19, the no-nonsense minister said the ban on pornographic websites should be expedited to keep minors safe online.

“In as much as we enjoy the freedom of everything including the internet, the pornographic sites centres must be blocked as soon as yesterday,” Magoha stated.

Magoha said the new administration should prioritise policies aimed at protecting the innocence of the minors.

“My main concern as I exit the Basic Education sector is that a decision will have to be made by this government or the next government to block the pornographic sites,” he added.

According to Mogoha, while the Internet has proven useful there is an urgent need to regulate it to protect the vulnerable young generation.

Magoha adamant on adult content

He told off critics for labelling him a dictator over his stand on the adult content in the country.

“When I mentioned this they said no, you are a dictator but as far as pornography is concerned I want to remain as dictator in everyone’s mind,” he stated while referring to his calls for a ban on adult content in 2020.

“You do not want your children who are going to primary school to know all types and positions of having sex …. for what purpose? CS Magoha posed.

Magoha insisted that Kenya can borrow from other countries that have successfully blocked access to pornographic sites for minors.

“In other countries like China, if you want to access pornographic sites, it is blocked for children,” the CS quipped.
