There was drama at Milimani Law Court’s family Division on Wednesday, November 16, after a city lawyer assaulted a businessman who has been sued by his estranged wife over child upkeep.

Lawyer Robert Asembo, who is representing the woman in the case, assaulted the former husband of his client with blows and kicks outside the presiding magistrate’s Robert Mbogo chamber.

The advocate claimed that the businessman had invited the media personnel to cover the matter to detriment of his client.

Child upkeep

The parties were expected to appear before magistrate Mbogo for the hearing in which Asembo’s client, who is a government employee, is demanding over Ksh600,000 in child upkeep from the businessman.

The fight broke out between the two parties as they waited outside the corridors.

After the assault, Asembo, who is a former AFC chairman and former FKF Vice-chair, immediately left.

The businessman had come to court to testify in the case but the case did not proceed following the unfortunate turn of events.

In the case, the woman says that they have been legally married for over 20 years but separated in January 2021.

She wants the court to compel her estranged husband to pay child support. She claims that the man has neglected his parental responsibility of taking care of their child.

Meanwhile, the assaulted businessman has threatened to report the matter to the police at Capitol Hill.
