Kitui county commissioner Erastus Mbui has led the security enforcement in an exercise of flashing out camels from Mutha in Kitui South.
Mbui says the exercise has been smooth and that there was no cause for alarm.
“We have been here the whole day and everything is okay and we are trying to verify because the local team had indicated they have been able to drive them out,” County Commissioner Mbui said.
Mbui said so far there were only 11 camels remaining in the area and authorities were also driving them away from the place.
MP’s ultimatum to Duale
The decision by the Kitui County Commissioner comes hours later after Kitui East Member of Parliament (MP) Nimrod Mbai issued a five-day ultimatum to Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee Aden Duale to get his camels out of Kitui county.
Mbai complained that it has been a norm for the Duale’s camel herders to kill Kitui people in cold blood as witnessed with the recent killing of a Mutuku who was murdered on Saturday, October 15, 2022.
“He has five days to get his camels out of Kitui. We don’t care if Duale is the defence minister or Putin,” Mbai said.
The Kitui East MP further threatened to confiscate Duale’s camels if didn’t take action.
“We shall flash out the camels from our land and confiscate them in police stations until their rich owners show up,” Mbai said.
