Kirinyaga: Three in custody for stupefying, robbing Catholic nun Ksh17,000

Three women in Kirinyaga are cooling their heels in police custody after they were arrested for allegedly stupefying and robbing a Catholic nun.

In the incident confirmed by Kirinyaga County police chief Mathew Mang’ira, the trio is said to have approached the nun while she was on a shopping spree at a nearby market.

Margaret Wairimu a potato vendor at the market told the police that one of the women masqueraded as a priest asking for help before convincing her to get into the vehicle so that they can discuss the issue at length.

“The women approached the nun and greeted her, one of the women identified herself as a priest and informed the nun that she had issues and needed solutions,

“After a few minutes of conversation, they convinced her to get into a waiting vehicle in which they drove off,” Wairimu added.

It is reported that a search was conducted after the nun’s driver discovered that she was missing.

The nun was however found dropped near the church confused.

Agitated residents with the help of the boda boda drivers trailed the vehicle and apprehended the suspects before handing them over to the police.

The nun in charge of a local primary school at Muthithi ward, Mwea West is said to have been robbed of Ksh17,000.

Following the incident, Mang’ira cautioned residents against such individuals who lure their victims before robbing them.

“We are calling on members of the public to be cautious when they come across such sweet talkers who are out to rob them of money and other valuables,” he stated.
