Police in Kirinyaga are investigating the death of 46-year-old Daniel Maina whose body was retrieved from River Rigati.

“It was reported that a dead body believed to be Maina aged 46 was seen floating in the river. It was confirmed and upon retrieving the body had already decomposed,” the police report read in part.

Maina who was a renowned cigarette vendor in Sagana disappeared on Sunday, June 12, 2022, and his family reported him missing at Sagana Police station.

According to Police reports seen by K24 Digital, his body was retrieved from River Rigati on Wednesday, June 15 at 4 pm – about five Kilometres from Sagana where it had been dumped.

The body was spotted by residents who had gone to fetch water. The hands and legs of the deceased had been tied with an electric wire.

Kirinyaga police say victim murdered elsewhere

Confirming the Incident, Ndia sub-county police commander David Kabena said Maina might have been murdered somewhere else before his body was dumped in the river.

“It appears he was murdered and his body later dumped into the river. His hands and legs had been tired with electric wire,” said Kabena.

“Everyone has a right to live let people stop killing each other,” he added.

The body was taken to Murang’a Hospital Morgue awaiting postmortem.
