Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has been ranked as the best-performing CS in President William Ruto’s administration, according to the latest poll by TIFA.

Kindiki, who has previously been ranked as the best-performing, scored 65 per cent in the poll conducted between November 25 and December 7, 2023.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who also serves as the Foreign Affairs CS, emerged second with a 62 per cent score while Education CS Ezekiel Machogu came third at 58 per cent.

Health CS Susan Nakhumicha was ranked fourth with a 57 per cent score while Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen closed the list of top five best-performing CSs at 57 per cent.

CS Kindiki and Murkomen lead in terms of visiting the highest number of counties. On the other hand, when it comes to reported foreign trips, Mudavadi, Salim Mvurya (Mining) and Ababu Namwamba (Sports) have travelled most.

“An analysis of the top 10 Cabinet Secretaries’ visits (based on available data) highlights a notable disproportion, with a concentration of 32% of their visits in Nairobi, surpassing the city’s 11% representation in the national population. This observation suggests that factors determining the number of such visits go beyond population alone. Such factors likely include proximity to their offices, the presence of strategic infrastructure, and particular events that require government attention, among others,” TIFA stated in the report.

83 per cent of Kenyans admitted to knowing Kindiki, with 80 per cent being aware of Machogu. Mudavadi is known by 78 per cent of Kenyans, Murkomen by 75 per cent and Nakhumicha by 59 per cent.

In terms of performance, the worst-performing CSs include Alice Wahome – Lands, Housing (24 per cent), Zacharia Njeru – Water (24 per cent), Sanitation Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u – National Treasury (24 per cent), Aisha Jumwa – Gender (23 per cent)and Davis Chirchir – Energy & Petroleum (19 per cent).
