Detectives in Kilifi have recovered the decomposing body of a Pwani University lecturer who had been missing.

According to Kilifi North sub-county police Commander Kenneth Maina, the body of the deceased was discovered inside his rental house at Mtaani within Kilifi township.

Police investigations have further established that at the time of his death, the lecturer was living alone.

Maina however did not reveal the identity of the deceased.

“Investigations have just begun and we are working closely with the university to enable us to reach his family first and inform them of the sad news,” the police boss said.

Maina added that neighbours alerted police after a foul smell began emanating from the deceased’s house.

“He had not been seen for the past three days and neighbours got concerned after a bad smell and flies were spotted from his house. They raised alarm with the police and necessary actions were taken,” he said.

The lecturer was teaching French and English at Pwani University.

Neighbours described the deceased as a man of few words who kept to himself.

“He barely interacted with his neighbours. He was a quiet man who kept to himself,” Fatma Hassan said.

His body has been moved to the Kilifi sub-county hospital awaiting to undergo postmortem exercise to establish the cause of death.
