Kenya Power, the primary electricity provider in Kenya, has announced plans for a substantial upgrade to its prepaid token vending system, slated to commence at 10:00 pm on Sunday, June 2, 2024.

This initiative, aimed at bolstering service quality, will entail a 24-hour suspension of the system, potentially affecting prepaid customers nationwide.

In a statement issued on Monday, May 27, 2024, Kenya Power alerted its customer base to the impending disruption, emphasizing the need for preparation.

“We wish to inform our customers that the prepaid token vending system will be unavailable from 10:00 PM, Sunday, 2nd June to 10:00 PM, Monday, 3rd June to enable us to upgrade our systems for improved service delivery,” Kenya Power said.

During the upgrade window, which extends until 10:00 pm on Monday, June 3, 2024, access to electricity tokens will be unavailable across all vending points, including Kenya Power offices, M-PESA Paybill number 888880, Airtel Money, and banking channels.

“During this period, customers will not be able to buy electricity tokens from all vending points including Kenya Power offices, M-PESA Paybill number 888880, Airtel Money and banking channels,” the statement said.

To mitigate the impact of the downtime, Kenya Power has advised prepaid customers to procure sufficient tokens in advance.

“We therefore wish to advise our pre-paid customers to buy enough tokens before then to avoid any inconvenience,” the utility firm said.

By ensuring they have an adequate supply before the upgrade begins, customers can minimize disruptions to their electricity supply during the 24-hour period.

The utility provider’s proactive approach underscores its commitment to service enhancement and customer satisfaction.

By temporarily suspending the prepaid token vending system, Kenya Power aims to implement crucial improvements that will ultimately benefit consumers.

This announcement comes as part of Kenya Power’s ongoing efforts to modernize its infrastructure and streamline operations.

By investing in upgrades and innovations, the company seeks to meet the evolving needs of its customer base while maintaining a reliable and efficient electricity supply network.

As the upgrade date approaches, Kenya Power said it remains committed to providing regular updates and support to its customers.

Through effective communication and proactive measures, the utility provider aims to minimize inconvenience and ensure a smooth transition during the system upgrade process.
