The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has urged motorists plying the Naivasha-Nakuru route to exercise lane discipline after a heavy traffic jam on the highway.

Motorists were forced to spend Saturday night on the road due to a heavy traffic-snarl up occasioned by the ongoing World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally competition in Naivasha.

Reacting to concerns from members of the public on Sunday, KeNHA also attributed the congestion to overlapping and impatient motorists.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority wishes to advise the public that a section of the Northern Corridor, between Naivasha and Nakuru, is experiencing heavy traffic congestion. This has been occasioned by a heavy traffic influx attributed to the World Rally Championship (WRC) event in Naivasha and overlapping by impatient motorists,” KeNHA said in a notice.

The authority, however, confirmed that traffic police are currently on the section marshalling all efforts to alleviate the situation.

“Accordingly, motorists are advised to exercise lane discipline and avoid overlapping as they approach this section in order to avoid further congestion,” KeNHA added.

The authority advised motorists to use alternative roads including the Naivasha – Njabini – Olkalou- Ol Joro Orok – Lanet – Nakuru roads and vice versa.

“We are monitoring the situation and will keep updating regularly,” KeNHA added.

President William Ruto flagged off the 70th Safari rally competition in Naivasha last Wednesday.

The Head of State will return to Naivasha to celebrate and award this year’s winners at Hell’s Gate later on Sunday.
